I’ve never understood why star power was so important in these shows. But once a Bollywood star wears an outfit the entire country wants to be in it. This time around, I designed an outfit for actress Kangna Ranaut, who walked as the showstopper for Amrapali at the India International Jewellery Week in Mumbai recently. It was a superb experience. Kangna was forthcoming and calm and fit into the maxi like a diva.
Working on a jewelry show is a totally different ballgame as compared to a regular fashion week the emphasis has to be the jewellery without the clothes overpowering or undergoing their job. It’s a challenge but a great one. It teaches a designer the art of holding back.
Amrapali is my all time fav brand I’ve seen my mom adorn the jewels since I was a kid. There’s a old world charm yet a great deal of modern elements in their work. Which is why I chose to associate with them. The outfits were simple black white and gold we payed attention to the cut and the silhouette and made sure we didn’t overdo print and patchwork.
